Viton is an elastomer with excellent resistance to mineral oils, aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated hydrocarbons, concentrated and diluted acids, and weak alkalis. High mechanical properties, very low gas permeability, and excellent resistance to aging, combined with very good compression set, make fluoroelastomers appear to be nearly universal materials.
